The view we all love - nearly home... |
Cromwell gets the award for apathy at this point of the election. The election returns so far can be seen on the CODC website
Election returns this link takes you to the sorry story of Cromwell's lack of enthusiasm for making a difference to our future by voting. As of Saturday 1st October only 35% of eligible Cromwell voters have returned their ballot papers - the rest of the district is sitting around 45% at this point.

Cromwell from above |
Come on, wake up Cromwell - this election is important - I know our council candidates are all elected without the ballot - but we need to have our say in regard to the Mayor and Regional councillors - we are now the biggest little town in this district our voice needs to be heard loud and clear. The issues faced by Cromwell are different and unique because of the position of our town as an industrial hub, the rapid growth and the squeeze on housing availability, and the difficult conversations about the Mall and Big Fruit developments. The Community Board are a crucial link between community and council and we need good people to make it to the board room table, people who will listen and advocate for all sectors of our community to ensure that our town continues to be a place that we all want to live.

I know I'm probably preaching to the converted - if you have been following this blog and keeping up with my facebook page - then you are probably one of the few who have voted. Those of us who have engaged in the process need to put some pressure on our friends and fellow Cromwellians to get their ballot papers in the mail ASAP. Wednesday is the last day that they can be posted to ensure they reach the electoral office by midday on Saturday.

I know I've joked that if you don't vote, you can't whinge for the next three years about local Council and Community Board decisions - but it is bigger than that. Voting means that the people you want making decisions are the ones sitting around the table. If you care about what happens next for our town then please vote and encourage others to do so too.
